Extra High Garage Details

An extra high garage offers the simple benefit of having increased headroom inside the building.

All of our concrete garages, sheds and garden buildings are available with extra high 7’6 (2.29m) eaves. There are a number of benefits to having an extra high garage:

Storage

The most obvious benefit is additional storage space. While we don’t recommend using roof trusses to support or store heavy items, an extra high garage does provide additional wall space for shelving units or cupboards. This can be particularly useful if you have limited space elsewhere in your home.

Vehicle Accommodation

An extra high concrete garage can be particularly useful if you have a large vehicle, for example a 4×4 or van. In fact, the size of your vehicle is an important consideration when looking at the purchase of a new sectional garage.

The clearance on a standard height (6’6”) garage door is roughly 6’1” (1.85m). A typical 4×4 say a Land Rover Freelander is about 1.75m high, a fairly tight squeeze!  Add some roof bars to this and it wouldn’t fit. However, with an extra high garage and a 7’ or 7’6” door the clearance increases to over 6’8” or 2 metres.

Versatility

The additional space can be used for various purposes, including setting up a workshop or a home gym.

Resale Value

A garage with extra height can increase the resale value of your home since it provides a desirable feature for potential buyers who may have specific needs or preferences.

Air Circulation

Better airflow can be achieved with higher eaves. This can help reduce moisture build-up and odours, particularly if you use your garage for activities that generate heat or fumes, such as woodworking or automotive work.

Vehicle Maintenance

If you enjoy working on your vehicles, having higher eaves can make it easier to jack the vehicle off the ground, allowing you to perform maintenance or repairs more comfortably and safely.

Future Proofing

Building a garage with extra height allows for future flexibility. You may not currently need the additional space, but it provides options for future renovations or changes in lifestyle or vehicle preferences.

An extra high garage is available in all the main Lidget Compton styles. So you can choose from the traditionally shaped  Apex pitched roof garage, the best-selling flat roofed Pent garage with a roof that slopes gently from front to back, and the Pent Mansard garage featuring a stylish tile effect front elevation. They can also be stand-alone garages or attached to the side of your house as a lean-to garage.

It is worth noting as well that windows in our extra high buildings are 3′ (0.91m) wide instead of 4′ (1.22m) as on our standard height buildings. This is due to our extra high concrete panels being 18″ (0.46m) wide not 2′ (0.61m).
